Overview: The WhatsApp account info report is an official data download from WhatsApp that shows what the platform stores about your account: your profile details, privacy settings, linked devices, group memberships, blocked contacts, and a count of messages sent and received. It does not include chat messages, media, or call history. You request it from Settings > Account > Request account info. WhatsApp prepares it in up to three days and delivers a ZIP file containing HTML and JSON files.

Most people request a WhatsApp account info report for one of three reasons: they want to see what data WhatsApp holds about them, they notice suspicious activity on their account and want to audit it, or they are switching devices and want a record of their account configuration. The report is useful for all three, but it does not include campaign delivery data, which contact received which message, or whether your bulk sends reached their destination. For outbound campaign tracking, a WhatsApp bulk message sender free tool with a built-in message activity dashboard covers what the official report does not. This guide shows exactly what the report looks like section by section, how to request it, and what to do with what you find.

What Is the WhatsApp Account Info Report?

The WhatsApp account info report is a privacy feature introduced under data transparency requirements. It allows any WhatsApp user to request a downloadable record of the information WhatsApp holds about their account. This is separate from exporting your chat history. The account info report focuses on account-level data: your settings, your profile, which devices are connected, which groups you belong to, and aggregated message counts.

The report is available to all WhatsApp users on personal and Business accounts. It is requested from within the WhatsApp mobile app and arrives as a ZIP file containing two file types: an HTML file you can open in a browser to read the data in a formatted view, and a JSON file containing the raw structured data.

The account info report shows what WhatsApp knows about your account. It does not show what you said to anyone.

In short: Seven sections. Account details, privacy settings, contacts, groups, message statistics, linked devices, and blocked contacts. All of it is account-level metadata. None of it is message content.

What the Report Does Not Include

Before requesting the report, understand the boundary of what it covers. This prevents the common disappointment of expecting chat history and receiving account metadata.

Important: To export your actual chat history, use WhatsApp's separate Export Chat feature. Go to any conversation, tap the three dots, tap More, then Export chat. This is a different function from the account info report and produces a text file of the conversation.

How to Request Your WhatsApp Account Report

The report can only be requested from the WhatsApp mobile app. It is not available from WhatsApp Web or the desktop app.

On Android

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone.
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Account.
  5. Tap Request account info.
  6. Select Request account report (not channel report).
  7. Tap Request report.

On iPhone

  1. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Settings at the bottom right.
  3. Tap Account.
  4. Tap Request account info.
  5. Select Request account report.
  6. Tap Request report.

After submitting the request, WhatsApp prepares the report. This takes up to three days. You will receive a notification when it is ready. The notification reads: Your Account info report is now available.

Note: The report is available for a limited time after preparation. WhatsApp deletes it from their servers after the download window closes. Download it as soon as you receive the notification. You can enable Create reports automatically in the same section to generate a fresh report every month without manual requests.

How to Open and Read the Report

The download arrives as a ZIP file. WhatsApp cannot open ZIP files directly. Save the ZIP to your device or computer, then extract it.

Inside the ZIP you will find two files:

  • account_info.html — open this in any browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox). It displays your report in a readable, formatted layout with all sections clearly labelled.
  • account_info.json — the raw data in JSON format. Useful if you want to process or store the data programmatically. For most users, the HTML file is sufficient.

Work through each section methodically. Start with Linked Devices. Then check Privacy Settings. Then review Groups for any you do not recognise. Message Statistics is informational rather than actionable but gives you a sense of account activity volume.

What to Do If the Report Shows Suspicious Activity

Two sections in the report are most likely to reveal a problem: Linked Devices and Groups.

Unrecognised linked device

If you see a device in Linked Devices that you do not recognise, remove it immediately. Open WhatsApp on your phone, go to Linked Devices, tap the suspicious device, and tap Log out. This disconnects it instantly.

After removing the device, change your WhatsApp two-step verification PIN if you have one set, or enable it if you do not. Go to Settings > Account > Two-step verification.

Groups you did not join

If the Groups section shows a group you do not recognise or did not join yourself, your number may have been added without your consent. Open WhatsApp, find the group, and exit it. You can also report it to WhatsApp from within the group if the activity appears malicious.

Privacy settings you did not configure

If your Privacy Settings show configurations you did not set, update them immediately. Go to Settings > Privacy and review each setting. After correcting them, request a new account report in 30 days to confirm the settings have held.

What the Official Report Does Not Track for Businesses

The WhatsApp account report gives you a snapshot of your account configuration and lifetime message counts. It does not give you campaign-level data, which is what most businesses actually need to track their outreach.

The official report is a privacy and audit tool. It tells you what WhatsApp knows about your account. It does not tell you whether your promotional campaign reached 400 contacts, how many messages in your last bulk send failed to deliver, or which segments of your list are most responsive.

Roklo's Message Activity dashboard tracks this at the campaign level. After each bulk send, you can see the delivery count, failed sends, and timing, giving you the outbound tracking layer the official report does not provide.

Best Practices for Managing Your Account Report

Enable automatic monthly reports

The Create reports automatically option in the Request account info screen generates a fresh report every month without a manual request. For businesses using WhatsApp as a primary customer communication channel, a monthly audit of linked devices and groups takes under five minutes and catches unauthorised access before it becomes a problem.

Store the report securely

The ZIP file contains your full contact list, group membership, and device history. Do not store it in a shared folder, an unsecured email attachment, or a public cloud drive without password protection. Treat it with the same care as any customer data file.

Download immediately after the notification

WhatsApp deletes the report from their servers after the download window expires. The notification does not tell you how long the window is. Download the file as soon as you see the notification, then store it in your secure folder.

Compare reports over time

A single report is a snapshot. Two reports from different months become a comparison: did new devices appear? Did group memberships change unexpectedly? Did message counts spike or drop significantly? The value of monthly reports increases with each successive month you run them.

Conclusion

The WhatsApp account info report sample above shows what to expect section by section: account details, privacy settings, contacts, groups, message statistics, linked devices, and blocked contacts. None of it is message content. All of it is account metadata that WhatsApp holds about your number.

Request it when you want a privacy audit, when you suspect unauthorised access, or when you are switching devices and want a record of your configuration. Enable automatic monthly reports to make this an ongoing practice rather than a one-time check.

For campaign-level delivery tracking that the official report does not cover, Roklo provides a free bulk message sender with a Message Activity dashboard that tracks delivery, failures, and campaign performance after every send. Open your browser, sync your contacts, and your first campaign tracking is live in minutes.

Track your campaign activity beyond what the account report shows.

Roklo is free to use. Import your contacts, run your bulk campaigns, and track delivery and response activity from the Message Activity dashboard. No download. No API. No setup fees.

Frequently asked questions

The WhatsApp account info report is an official privacy data download that shows what WhatsApp stores about your account. It includes your profile details, privacy settings, contacts list, groups, message count statistics, linked devices, and blocked contacts. It does not include chat messages, call history, or media files.
