Overview: To share screen on WhatsApp, start a video call, tap the screen share icon in the call controls, and tap Start now. The other person sees everything on your screen in real time, and you tap Stop sharing to go back to a normal video call. WhatsApp screen share works on Android, iPhone, the desktop app, and, since July 2026, WhatsApp Web. It only works in video calls, not voice calls. This guide covers every device, group calls, audio, safety, and what to do when the option is missing.
Many businesses use screen share for product demos and customer support. To follow up with every customer after a demo, a WhatsApp bulk message sender free tool sends personalised messages to your whole list from a browser.
Yes. WhatsApp screen share is built into video calls on every platform. Here is where it works:
Platform | Screen share? | Notes |
Android | Yes | Share the whole screen while in a video call |
iPhone | Yes | Uses the iOS screen broadcast prompt |
Windows desktop app | Yes | Choose a whole screen or one window |
Mac desktop app | Yes | Needs Screen Recording permission in macOS |
WhatsApp Web | Yes, since July 2026 | Rolling out gradually with web calling |
Voice call (any device) | No | Switch to video first |
Open WhatsApp and start a video call, or switch an ongoing voice call to video.
Tap the screen once if the call controls are hidden.
Tap the screen share icon, a phone with an arrow, in the controls at the bottom. On some versions it sits under the three-dot menu.
Read the notice that everything on your screen will be visible, then tap Start now.
Leave WhatsApp and open the app, photo, or document you want to show.
Result: the other person sees your phone screen live, with your camera feed shown in a small window.
Tip: Turn your phone sideways. WhatsApp supports landscape mode in video calls, which makes documents and spreadsheets easier to read on the other end.

Open WhatsApp and start a video call.
Tap the screen share icon in the call controls.
In the iOS prompt, make sure WhatsApp is selected and tap Start Broadcast.
Wait for the 3-second countdown, then swipe up and open what you want to show.
Result: your iPhone screen is shared, and a red indicator shows that broadcasting is on.
If the broadcast option is greyed out, check Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, and make sure Screen Recording is allowed.
Open the WhatsApp desktop app and start a video call.
Click the screen share icon in the call controls.
Choose to share your entire screen or a single window. Sharing one window keeps other apps private.
If the option appears, turn on Share audio to include sound from your computer.
Click Share.
Result: the other person sees your computer screen or chosen window.
On a Mac, the first time you share, macOS asks for permission. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording, turn on WhatsApp, and restart the app.

Since July 28, 2026, WhatsApp Web supports voice and video calls in the browser, including screen sharing. The steps match the desktop app: start a video call, click the screen share icon, and pick a tab, window, or entire screen when your browser asks.
If you are not yet logged in to WhatsApp Web, this guide to scanning the WhatsApp Web QR code gets you connected in under a minute.
Rollout note: Web calling is reaching accounts gradually. If you do not see call buttons in WhatsApp Web yet, use the desktop app or your phone for now.
Screen sharing works in group video calls the same way as in one-to-one calls. Start or join a group video call, tap the screen share icon, and tap Start now. Everyone in the call sees your screen.
Only one person can share at a time. If someone else starts sharing, your share stops. In large group calls, tell people before you start so the call does not get confusing.
Go back to WhatsApp and tap Stop sharing in the call screen. On iPhone, you can also tap the red indicator at the top of the screen and tap Stop. The call carries on as a normal video call.
To stay on the call but silence your side while you set something up, the call controls in this guide on how to mute calls on WhatsApp cover muting your mic and camera.

It depends on the device and what you are playing:
If audio matters, such as when walking a customer through a product video, test it with a colleague before the real call.
WhatsApp screen sharing is end-to-end encrypted and is not recorded by WhatsApp. Only people in the call can see what you share. The real risk is what is on your screen, not the connection.
Turn on Do Not Disturb first. Incoming notifications, including message previews and OTPs, appear to everyone watching.
Hide notification previews. If you share often, set notifications to hide sender names and previews.
The steps for iPhone are in this guide on how to hide names on WhatsApp notifications.
Never open banking apps or password managers. Usernames, passwords, and account numbers on screen are visible to everyone in the call.
Only share with people you know. Scammers sometimes ask victims to share screens on "support" calls to read OTPs. No genuine bank or company will ask for this.
Rule: If someone you do not know asks you to share your screen, end the call.

After a demo or support call, the next step is usually a follow-up message. Roklo sends personalised follow-ups to your whole contact list from your browser, with each person's name and a scheduled send time, and no WhatsApp Business API required.
You are on a voice call. Screen share only appears in video calls. Switch to video.
WhatsApp is out of date. Update from the Play Store or App Store. Other participants may also be prompted to update.
Controls are hidden. Tap the screen during the call to bring up the controls, and check the three-dot menu.
iPhone restriction is on. Allow Screen Recording under Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
Mac permission is missing. Turn on WhatsApp under Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording, then restart WhatsApp.
Black screen for viewers. Apps like Netflix block screen capture. This is expected, not a bug.
Laggy or frozen share. Switch to Wi-Fi, close other apps, and turn your camera off during the share to save bandwidth.
Sharing your screen on WhatsApp takes three taps: start a video call, tap the screen share icon, and tap Start now. It works on Android, iPhone, the Windows and Mac apps, and WhatsApp Web, in both one-to-one and group video calls. It does not work in voice calls.
Before you share, turn on Do Not Disturb and close anything private, because everything on screen is visible. For businesses, screen share turns a chat into a live demo or support session, without a separate meeting app.
For the follow-up after those calls, Roklo works as a free bulk message sender that sends personalised messages to your contact list from your browser.
